The festival of colours and livelihood, Holi is an occasion to spend time with family and enjoy delicious treats like gujia, laddoo, and barfis. However, among all this fun and celebration, we often neglect to care for our skin and hair. The aftereffects of playing Holi not only cause discomfort to our skin, hair, and eyes but also can be hazardous to our health.

Therefore, mentioned below are some of the pre and post-Holi skincare and haircare tips for you shared by Dr Ipsita Chatterjee, Ayurveda Expert & Technical Head, SoulTree

Pre-Holi tips

Holi 2023 Skincare Tips

1. Make sure to massage your face with Kumkumadi oil onto the skin with the help of a Kansa Wand a night prior to Holi. This hydrates the skin and leads to less colour absorption the following day.
2. Before you start with the Holi celebration, make sure to apply a hydrating toner, then a moisturizer (you can use one with Kumkumadi in it) and a non-comedogenic sunscreen with 30+SPF or higher on your face, neck, and ears.

3. Also, do moisturize your body properly as it will keep the skin nourished and safeguard it from harsh colours, such as an organic hemp body oil.
4. Safeguard your lips with hemp oil lip butter to prevent cracks and dryness.

Holi Nailcare Tips

Prefer coating your nails with a dark colour nail polish to protect them from getting damaged. Keep your nails short and apply a nail lotion containing Vitamin- E.

Holi Haircare Tips

  • Massage your hair and scalp with revitalizing hair oil enriched with Amla & Brahmi and let it sit overnight to prevent dull and brittle hair. Besides, if you don't want to do oiling, you can spread Aloe vera gel on your hair and scalp before being exposed to the Holi colours.
  • It is also advised to tie your hair to avoid Holi colour from seeping into the hair. You can choose from top knots, messy braids, or sleek back buns.
  • You can also cover your hair with a
  • hat, bandana, or dupatta for additional safety and to add more grace to your Holi outfit.

Post-Holi tips

Post-Holi Skincare Tips

1. Holi colours drastically dry out your skin, so be sure to double-cleanse thoroughly. Use a cotton ball and an excellent cleansing oil that is rich in Kumkumadi's benefits. Leave it for a
minute before rinsing it off with a moderate cleaner.

2. Use a face mask to soothe your skin rather than scrubbing your skin to remove the Holi colours.

3. You can try this yoghurt and Multani mitti mask. To make a smooth paste, mix three tablespoons of yoghurt and five tablespoons of fuller's earth. After 20 minutes of application, rinse it off.

Post-Holi Haircare Tips

  • Wash your hair with regular water first to get the colour out. Immediately after this, wash your hair using a gentle herbal shampoo and a decent conditioner. It is advised to use organic shampoo infused with Bhringraj and liquorice (Mulethi).
  • Post the celebration, use hair masks or do proper oiling to restore the lustre
  • and nourishment of your hair.
    • Moreover, you may make your own hydrating DIY hair mask by mixing two tablespoons of curd, one tablespoon of aloe vera gel, two tablespoons of conditioner (prefer using one with Hibiscus), and a tablespoon of coconut or organic hemp seed oil. Apply it evenly throughout the length of the hair and the scalp, and rinse off after 15 minutes.
    • Additionally, to remove colour and lessen the damage, apply curd to your hair at least 45 minutes before shampooing.
